In all honesty, any restaurant is a good date night restaurant in KL, if you and your partner are fond of each other and the place and food is decent enough.
But there’s something to be said about spending a little more putting the extra effort to make a date night, particularly on special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries or Valentines Day.
And whether you’re a young couple or a married pair, both should try to make special memories to look back and remember that that courtship does not end when the relationship is established. And it doesn’t even have to hurt your wallet too badly.
And with that in mind, we’ve assembled the best date night restaurants in KL for you to bring you and your partner a little closer together.
ADVENTURE AND INTIMACY
An anniversary, a celebration of a couple’s achievement, or even a Valentine’s day dinner for two restaurants out of our list were chosen to induce a sense of both intimacy and adventure.
Usually, these two things don’t always go together, unless the setting is just right. And we chose two extremes of this case - one where you get to see a marvellous view from no less than four exotic and romantic restaurants in KL…. and one where ironically, you don’t see anything at all.
Dining in the Dark

This is a rather bold choice for your Valentine’s Day Dinner, but hear us out. After being ushered in and served by their staff (many of whom are also visually impaired), you are given 90 minutes to experience this unique dining adventure. The food, prepared by Chef Werner Kuhn, prioritises distinct aromas and textures and you learn to settle in and navigate the experience.
The lack of vision doesn’t just encourage but necessitates placing a certain degree of trust in each other. If you’re willing to brave the dark for this oddly sensuous experience this Valentine’s Day, this is the dining experience for you!

Troika Sky Dining

One of the most romantic things you can do is take your date out to a place with a view. And not only does the top of Troika Tower have a great view of KL city, it also has not one but FOUR fine restaurants to dine in as you take in the sights. What’s more, they are all offering special Valentine's Day dinner sets to mark the occasion.
- Fritz is perhaps the most conventional restaurant, serving modern-style French cuisine. Its Valentine’s Day set has poached oysters, grilled snapper, foie gras and quail as well as lamb racks with jus and chocolate ganache
- Strato is an Italian restaurant, and their Valentine’s Day dinner sets are served in traditional courses - first of crudo appetisers, then of cappelletti pasta, then a fish course and a meat course before capping off with tiramisu
-
- Fuego is a Latin American restaurant who’s Valentine dinner serves classics like tiger prawn ceviche, pulled duck tacos and grilled lamb with chimichurri sauce.
- Mr Chew’s Chino Latino Bar is perhaps the most exotic establishment, serving Japanese-Peruvian classics such as nori tuna tacos and tiradito (a raw fish dish with a spicy sauce poured on top), and grilled miso-glazed snapper. If you like our previous Japanese cuisine recommendations, this will be a very interesting evolution of this tradition.

PEACE, SERENITY AND ESCAPE
These three choices are less about the senses and more about how to put you and your loved one in a specific state of mind and memory.
While the upper parts of this list are meant to stimulate, the three below are meant to help you relax and drift away to fonder times and climes. Because while we have the tools to help you with your everyday needs, we also have recommendations on how to spend a special evening at some of the most romantic restaurants in KL, and how to help with that too.
Lady Yi’s Teahouse

The best date night restaurants in KL aren’t always about romance and excitement. If it's the refined and relaxed route you’re taking through love’s many streets, Lady Yi’s Teahouse is exactly that kind of establishment for you.
We have covered quite a few incredibly luxurious hospitality-based establishments before, but Lady Yi’s Teahouse is a little different.
Overlooking Chinatown from the seventh floor of the Four Points by Sheraton, Lady Yi’s Teahouse is a fusion of East and West, and is likely the country’s only Peranakan-inspired afternoon tea service, with items such as otak-otak sandwiches, pai tee and scones served with adzuki bean butter and homemade kaya.
Address: 7th Floor of Four Points by Sheraton, No.2 Jalan Balai Polis, City Centre. Contact no: 03-2035 7333.
Opening hours: Daily from 11am till 7pm.
JOLOKO

If you’re feeling adventurous and you’re looking to try out new cuisines from new parts of the world, we recommend JOLOKO.
This establishment, situated in a little yellow heritage house on Chow Kit serves up Afro-Caribbean fare from the sunny shores of such countries as Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic and is particularly inventive with its drink selection.
There are some fascinating regional highlights in their menu. These include a prawn and crab ceviche made with Pisco (a grape spirit native to Peru and Chile), guava-glazed prawn tostadas, Barbados BBQ pork tail, Pork Carnitas and Jamaican Jerk Chicken.
Address: 43,Jalan Kamunting, off Dang Wangi.

Hungry Tapir
If you have a partner who’s health-conscious or is dedicated to a plant-based diet, then look no further! This cosy little restaurant, in the heart of Chinatown, is nestled in an old pre-war building that used to be a backpacker’s hostel.
It’s now bright and cheery, with a monochromatic interior that befits its animal name. And like said Malaysian herbivore, this is also a plant-based restaurant, specialising in vegan and vegetarian fare that often surprises its customers by how inviting and tasty the food is in spite of its lack of carnivorous options.
While other selections on this list specialise in specific culinary traditions, Hungry Tapir joint breaks the mould a little bit with their fusion selections. They have a masak-lemak fettuccine, a plant-based ayam geprek burger, a truffle mac and plant-based cheese and a wide variety of locally-inspired fare, such as roti jala with jack fruit curry, hedgehog mushroom sate and a very generous plate of nasi lemak.
