Touch 'n Go Evolution: Card to App to eWallet to RFID

Along with modern technologies, Touch 'n Go has evolved into a versatile eWallet that can be used for a wide range of transactions.

From card to app

In 2017, Touch 'n Go launched its mobile app, which made it easier for users to reload their cards and manage their accounts. The app also allows users to make contactless payments using their smartphones.

How to reload your Touch 'n Go card

  • Online: You can reload your card online through the MYTouchnGo portal or the Touch 'n Go e-wallet app.
  • At a physical location: You can also reload your card at a variety of physical locations such as Touch 'n Go Spots and other authorized reload points.

When reloading your Touch 'n Go card, be sure to only use authorized reload points. If you reload your card through an unauthorized party, you risk having your card blacklisted.

To eWallet

In 2018, Touch 'n Go launched its eWallet, which allows users to make contactless payments and P2P transfers without having to carry their physical cards! The eWallet also offers a variety of other features, such as bill payments, cashback, and rewards.

How to use Touch ‘n Go eWallet 

To use the Touch 'n Go eWallet, you need to download the app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Once you have downloaded the app, you need to create an account and link it to your Touch 'n Go card (optional). Read through to learn why it’s important to create an account on your app.

Once your account is set up, you can start loading money into your eWallet balance via online banking, Debit card, Credit card or Cash deposit at authorized reload points.

When your eWallet balance is loaded, you can start using it to make payments at the payment terminal, online payments and P2P transfers.

To use the Touch 'n Go eWallet, you need to have a Touch 'n Go account. You can create an account online or at a Touch 'n Go Hub. Once you have an account, you can download the Touch 'n Go eWallet app on your smartphone.

To reload your Touch 'n Go eWallet, you can use your credit or debit card, or you can transfer money from your bank account. Once your eWallet is reloaded, you can start using it to pay for things.


To RFID

There are two types of Touch 'n Go RFID:

  • Touch 'n Go SmartTAG

The Touch 'n Go SmartTAG is a prepaid electronic toll collection (ETC) device that allows users to pass through toll plazas without having to stop. The SmartTAG is linked to a Touch 'n Go card, which is used to reload the device's balance. 

  • Touch 'n Go RFID Sticker

Introduced in 2019, The Touch 'n Go RFID tag is a sticker that is affixed to the inside of your vehicle's windshield, behind the rearview mirror. It is linked to your Touch 'n Go eWallet, which allows you to pass through toll plazas without having to stop. The toll fee will be automatically deducted from your Touch 'n Go eWallet balance.

Additional information:

  • The Touch 'n Go RFID is non-transferable and cannot be used on vehicles that are not registered in the RFID system.
  • If the RFID is damaged or removed from the vehicle, it will no longer function and you will need to purchase a new one.
  • You can manage your Touch 'n Go RFID and view your toll transaction history through the Touch 'n Go eWallet app.

Where can I use Touch 'n Go?

Touch 'n Go can be used at a wide range of merchants, including:

  • Tolls: Touch 'n Go is the only electronic toll collection (ETC) operator for all highways in Peninsular Malaysia.

  • Public transportation: Touch 'n Go can be used to pay for fares on the LRT, MRT, Monorail, KTM, and buses in major Malaysian cities.

  • Parking: Touch 'n Go can be used to pay for parking at malls, hospitals, and other locations.
  • Retail: It can be used at a variety of retail stores, including food and beverage outlets, pharmacies, and entertainment venues.

  • Contactless payment: Touch 'n Go cards support contactless payment, which means that users can simply tap their card on a reader to pay. 

Touch 'n Go Safety

  • To protect your Touch 'n Go card, register it online at the MYTouchnGo portal. This will make it easier to recover your card if it is lost or stolen, and to verify your ownership for refunds. 
  • Block or cancel your card by contacting the Touch 'n Go Careline Center at 03-2714 8888, or through the MYTouchnGo portal.

Additional tips:

  • Monitor your Touch 'n Go transactions regularly to ensure that there is no unauthorized activity.
  • Be aware of the contactless payment limit and consider reducing it if you are concerned about security.
  • If you are selling or giving away your Touch 'n Go card, be sure to transfer ownership of the card to the new owner through the MYTouchnGo portal.

Reload limits

You can reload your Touch 'n Go card with RM10, RM20, RM35, RM50, RM100, RM200, and RM500. The maximum reload value is RM1,500.

Dormant fee

Your Touch 'n Go card will remain active as long as you reload or use it at least once a year. If your card is inactive for 12 months, a dormant fee of RM5.30 will be charged immediately and deducted from your card balance. 

Refunding your card balance

If you will no longer be using your Touch 'n Go card, you can return it to a Touch 'n Go counter and get your unused card balance refunded. However, there are terms and conditions that apply.
